10 tips for AI optimization (from Googles guide....)

Google published a guide on how to optimize for generative AI in Google Search..

I used Claude Fable to summarize it into this list...

1. AI optimization = SEO. AI Overviews and AI Mode run on core Google Search ranking systems. So do SEO if you want to be visible in AI overview...

2. Write non-commodity content. Dont write generic "best of" listicles. Write unique content with your experiences.

3. Don't mass-produce pages for fan-out queries. Google calls it scaled content abuse. (I still do this because it works though...)

4. Dont use SEO hacks. No llms.txt, no chunking, no AI-specific rewriting, no fake mentions. Is what Google says, but we all know that some of this works very well...

5. Stay indexed. Google wont show pages in AI overview that are not indexed.

6. Add quality images and video. AI overview looks at your visuals and fetch and use them...

7. Write for humans. Use clear headings, paragraphs, sections. This is basic SEO advice...

8. Be careful with JavaScript SEO. Google does process JS, but only if its not blocked.

9. Use Merchant Center and Google Business Profile. Products and local info from your GBP can appear directly in AI responses.

10. Prepare for agents. Browser agents read DOM and accessibility trees. This one is new. We all need to think about this..

Thats it. What I like about this list is, that you can reverse some of their advice, to get really good results. Like writing and publishing listicles, producing pages for fan-out queries etc...
